For some it is the animal and its utility -- its
uniquely versatile characteristics of rugged
individuality, wide-ranging usefulness and oft time
precocious personality. For others it is the
cashmere fiber with it's ability to create warmth
without weight, the design opportunities in it's
drape, and the incredible sensuous experience of
softness evoking luxury.
Cashmere America Cooperative is owned and
operated by those in America raising cashmere
producing goats. It is and organization set up for
the purpose of processing and marketing American
cashmere. Started in 1991 by a small group of
dedicated farmers and ranchers in Colorado and
Texas, the Co-op has grown to include farms in
Maine and Washington State and from New Mexico to
Canada. Why do people raise cashmere goats in
America? The reason are as varied as the people
involved. Cashmere goats have found their niche in
America, from pasture management and weed control
to providers of meat in specialty markets, to 4H
youth projects, and especially as a source of one
of the most luxurious fibers in the world.
As an organization, Cashmere America Co-op
recognizes that consistence in quality makes for a
premium finished product. That is just one of the
reasons dedicated growers all across America joined
together in the Co-op to establish high and
consistent grading standards for their fiber. We
hope you will notice our care in the garments you
make from our yarns.
